Keeping your Atlanta commercial property in tip-top shape is a year-round task.

In spring, we get things going, refreshing the landscape and kicking off the growing season with pops of spring color.

In summer, we amp up the color with all the season’s blooming best, in addition to keeping everything else that is green trimmed, tidy and growing strong.

Then comes autumn. Despite the changes in the landscape and the addition of fall colors, this is definitely not the time to stop caring for your Atlanta commercial landscape. There’s still much work to be done to correctly care for your landscape in this season and properly prepare it for the seasons ahead: winter and, more importantly, next spring.

Here are our recommendations for some of the most important maintenance tasks for Atlanta commercial property managers to include on their fall to-do lists.

Fall Mulch Application

In fall, pine straw starts to break down in commercial landscape beds. Applying a fresh layer of pine straw in these areas in autumn rejuvenates the look of these beds and comes with a whole bevy of other benefits.

These include keeping weeds at bay, reinvigorating soil by adding organic matter, and providing a naturally sustainable addition to the commercial landscape.

Fall Aeration & Overseeding Of Fescue Turfgrass

Fescue turfgrass can use a little rejuvenation in the fall as temperatures cool. This is where lawn aeration and overseeding can give the turf a much-needed boost. Aeration helps open up the lawn, relieving compaction.

Overseeding fills in any bare spots and rough patches that can crop up in worn out commercial lawns, particularly those in high traffic areas.

Fall Pre-Emergent Applications On Bermudagrass

In October, HighGrove Partners’ crews apply pre-emergent herbicides to warm-season grasses (mainly bermudagrass) to control winter weeds like poa annua that like to pop up at this time of year.

How do you know if you have poa annua? Large chunks of green appear in the middle of dormant lawns in November.

The pre-emergent herbicide application prevents this splotchy appearance.

Fall Color

There’s something so exciting about the fall palette of landscape colors.

Autumn is the ideal time to replace tired summer annuals with a fresh selection of flowering plants that come in a wonderful and wide range of colors and hues. These include pansies and violas, as well as mums and kale.

Feeling The Fall Season?

Have you noticed that your pine straw mulch is breaking down or has faded in color? Does your property’s fescue turfgrass look worn and tired? Are there weeds cropping up in your bermudagrass? Are your summer annuals spent, ready for a seasonal makeover?

HighGrove Partners can help ensure your Atlanta commercial property receives all the proper maintenance it needs in fall to ensure it has a successful winter and emerges even healthier in the spring.
